Description and lines of research

The Environmental Analysis unit focuses on the development of advanced analytical methods in complex effluents and their application to the monitoring of organic micropollutants, as well as the identification of transformation products generated during water treatment. It has state-of-the-art equipment (high-end LC-MS/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry).

  • Development of advanced analytical methods for the characterization of complex effluents and their application to the monitoring of organic microcontaminants during wastewater treatment to ensure their elimination
  • Identification of transformation products generated during wastewater treatment and establishment of degradation routes
  • Study of the influence of treatments on the quality of reclaimed water and evaluation of the impact of its reuse in agriculture and the environment
  • Determination of organic micropollutants in soils and plants. Main researchers Ana Agüera López (ORCID ID: 0000 -0003-2649-6772; Scopus Author ID: 6701415534) Full professor at the University of Almeria. Degree in Chemistry (1987). Ph.D. in Chemistry (1995). She is responsible for the group ‘Environmental Analysis and Water Treatment’ (FQM -374) of the Andalusian Research Plan. She has more than 30 years of experience in the development and validation of analytical methods, based on the use of chromatographic techniques coupled to mass spectrometry, for the analysis of organic contaminants in foods and environmental matrices. She has participated in 42 national an d international competitive research projects, 13 of them as principal investigator. She is co author of 2 patents, 2 utility models, and 191 scientific publications in indexed international journals (h-index = 69, March, 2026). She has co-supervised 10 doctoral theses and participated in more than 200 conference communications. She is the author of 3 books and 13 book chapters and has participated in the organisation of 8 international conferences. Cuenta con más de 20 años de experiencia en el campo de la descontaminación y regeneración de aguas residuales industriales y urbanas mediante procesos avanzados de oxidación y su combinación con sistemas fisicoquímicos de pretratamiento, así como con tratamientos biológicos avanzados. La Dr. Isabel Oll er ha desarrollado esta actividad a través de su participación en diversos Proyectos de I+D nacionales y europeos (5th, 6th & 7th EU FP, H2020, HE). Dentro de su producción científica cabe destacar que es autora y coautora de 4 libros en Editorial Nacional y coautora de 21 capítulos de libros de Editorial Internacional. Además, es coautora
