17th Edition of the Course on Innovation in Wastewater Treatment and Reuse

The University of Almería and the Almería Provincial Council strengthen their collaboration to promote training and innovation in sustainable water management

The University of Almería (UAL) and the Provincial Council of Almería have renewed their partnership to foster innovation in the field of wastewater treatment, regeneration, and reuse across the province.

During the week of November 10th, the 17th edition of the course “Innovation and Future Challenges in Wastewater Treatment and Regeneration in the EU” will take place. This course has become a consolidated part of UAL’s academic programme and is highly appreciated by students who have taken part in previous editions.

Organized within the framework of the Seminars on the European Union and supported by Europe Direct Almería, the course combines technical lectures, visits to facilities, and discussion panels addressing the main challenges of water management and reuse from a multidisciplinary perspective—technological, regulatory, economic, and social.

The course brings together university professors, researchers, and professionals from the water sector, as well as students from various degree programmes — Chemical, Industrial, and Agricultural Engineering — and postgraduate levels (Master’s and PhD).

According to the Vice-Rectorate for Scientific Policy of UAL, this training “provides students with a comprehensive understanding of current water challenges, integrating scientific and technical aspects with the legal and social dimensions that shape water management.”

The Provincial Council of Almería emphasized that “water treatment and reuse are essential areas for the sustainable development of the province and a clear example of how institutional collaboration can drive technological and environmental progress.”

The CIESOL research centre, a reference in solar energy and sustainability research, actively contributes to the organization and development of the course, which has become a key annual event for training and debate on Europe’s water challenges.
