Last Call: Registration Open for the 2025 Cátedra Aqualia Awards for Talent in the Water Cycle
The Cátedra Aqualia del Ciclo Integral del Agua (Aqualia Chair in the Integral Water Cycle) has launched its fourth edition of awards aimed at recognizing academic and research excellence. Students and PhD graduates across Spain have until June 1st to submit their applications for a chance to win prizes of up to €1,500.
This competition seeks to highlight works that provide innovative and sustainable solutions for managing one of our most vital resources: water.
Categories and Prize Money
The awards are divided based on the academic level of the submitted work. In addition to the monetary prize, each winner will receive an official diploma:
- €250 for the Undergraduate Dissertation (TFG) category.
- €500 for the Master’s Thesis (TFM) category.
- €1,500 for the Doctoral Thesis (PhD) category.
Eligibility Requirements
The call is open to individuals affiliated with Spanish universities under the following criteria:
- TFG and TFM: Students enrolled or graduated who have presented their thesis during the 2024-2025 academic year at any Spanish university center.
- Doctoral Theses: Must have been defended between January 1 and December 31, 2024, at a Spanish public university, achieving a grade of «Sobresaliente Cum Laude.»
- Theses may be written in Spanish or English. (If written in a co-official language of Spain, a summary in Spanish must be attached).
- Theses are divided into two fields: Scientific-Technical and Social Sciences.
Priority Topics
The Chair will particularly value works focused on the circular economy and energy sustainability. Suggested areas include:
- Wastewater treatment with microalgae and water regeneration using solar energy.
- Smart Water Management and water quality control systems.
- Waste valorization and energy recovery from wastewater.
- Efficient desalination and water economics.
- Any other discipline related to the integral water cycle.
Important Note: Accepting the award implies a commitment to attend the prize-giving ceremony and authorization for the Chair to publish the winner’s name, work title, and summary.
