Success of the Summer Course “Almería at the Forefront of Water Reuse and Desalination”

The Aqualia Chair for Integrated Water Management successfully held the fifth edition of its summer course, as part of the University of Almería’s Summer Courses programme. The opening session featured the University’s Rector, José Céspedes; the Regional Minister, Ramón Fernández‑Pacheco; the City Councillor, Juan José Segura; Higinio Martínez (Aqualia); and the Chair’s director, Ana Agüera.

Over the course of three intensive days, leading experts such as Ana Allende (CEBAS-CSIC), Miguel García Martínez (MOEVE), José Luis Marín (Aqualia), and María del Carmen García Panadero (AEDyR) addressed key issues related to water reuse, desalination, and risk management, presenting success stories and technological advances.

Participants also took part in technical visits to El Toyo and El Bobar wastewater treatment plants and to the Mar de Alborán desalination plant, gaining first-hand insight into innovative water treatment and reuse solutions.

This edition reaffirmed Almería’s leadership in the application of advanced technologies for sustainable water management, and the Aqualia Chair’s role as a benchmark in training and knowledge transfer.
