The CE–RBVM 25 Symposium brings leading robotics researchers to UAL, featuring keynote speaker Oussama Khatib

Two researchers from the University of Almería affiliated with CIESOL have been recognized in the EU-SOLARIS Annual Awards 2025, which highlight excellence in the field of Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) energy and associated research infrastructures. The award ceremony will take place during the EU-SOLARIS Doctoral Colloquium 2025.
In the category of “Best Doctoral Thesis in the Field of CST Technologies and Their Applications,” the award was granted to Dr. Igor Pataro for his thesis titled «Advances in Optimal and Predictive Control Approaches for Solar Thermal Systems Enhancement.» The work, supervised by CIESOL researchers Dr. José Luis Guzmán Sánchez and Dr. Juan Diego Gil Vergel, proposes advanced solutions to improve control systems in solar thermal technologies, enhancing their operational efficiency and integration in real-world applications.
In the category of “Outstanding Contribution to the Improvement of CST Research Infrastructure Capabilities and Services,” the jury granted the award ex aequo to two developments, one of which involves researchers linked to the EU-SOLARIS environment: «Research Facility to Improve the Resources Management in Cooling for CSP Plants,» developed by Dr. Patricia Palenzuela and Dr. Lidia Roca (CIEMAT).
These recognitions, awarded by the Scientific and Technical Committee (STC) of EU-SOLARIS ERIC https://eusolaris.eu/organization-governance/, reflect the high level of research carried out at the University of Almería and CIESOL, as well as their international impact in the field of sustainable energy technologies.
CIESOL warmly congratulates the awardees for their outstanding research work and their contribution to advancing knowledge in the field of concentrating solar power.
