Air Purification and Climate Change Mitigation Through a Decentralized Microalgae Production Approach (CLEAN·AIR)
-

Summary
Air pollution is the leading environmental risk factor for premature death and is responsible for 1 in 9 deaths worldwide. CLEAN·AIR aims to transform cities—major emitters of CO₂ and other pollutants—into key players in the implementation of climate change adaptation policies and CO₂ mitigation strategies.
To achieve this, the project will develop and validate an innovative air filtration process based on microalgae, which will ensure safe and comfortable indoor air quality regardless of outdoor air conditions.
Objectives:
The project will also develop a novel decentralized microalgae production strategy, using buildings and homes as biological factories that will supply a centralized processing facility to produce sustainable food and agricultural products.
