Integration of Membrane distillation in green hydrogen production to enhance its sustainability (HYDROMEM)
-
Summary
The HYDROMEM project addresses two technical challenges in renewable hydrogen production: the first consists of ensuring pure water for the electrolysis process, while the second focuses on the efficient utilization of the waste heat generated during electrolysis. The core idea of this research is to explore whether membrane distillation (MD) can be thermally coupled with water electrolysis. The objective of this integration is to produce freshwater from seawater, using solely waste heat as the primary source of thermal energy for desalination.
