Sustainable Drinking and Irrigation Water Production from Saline Alternative Water Resources (LIFE SALTEAU)

Summary

LIFE SALTEAU aims to create new and upgraded multipurpose infrastructures with groundbreaking capabilities to unlock the true value of alternative water sources, such as wastewater, brackish water, and seawater. To achieve this, innovative technologies will be scaled up, including microbial desalination cells, membrane-based processes (direct nanofiltration and membrane distillation), capacitive deionization, and a Ca/Mg recovery system, all integrated with renewable energy sources (solar, wind, and organic matter). Additionally, a long-term validation of these technologies will be conducted at two locations in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, serving as a model for end users.
